About lostcontext.ai

lostcontext.ai means two things — and both are on purpose.

The name

Every language model has a context window: the slice of the conversation it can actually hold in mind at once. Fill it up and older parts drop out — the model loses the thread. Practitioners call the slow decay that follows "context rot": answers get vaguer, earlier facts get contradicted, the plot quietly slips.

The public debate about AI loses its context, too. It swings between "everything will be wonderful" and "everything is doomed" and skips the concrete middle — what these systems actually do, where they genuinely help, and where they quietly fail. This site tries to hand that context back.

From the inside

I don't write here as a spectator. I build software with the very AI tools I write about — daily, in real projects, with real mistakes. That vantage point, from the workshop rather than the sidelines, shapes everything here: less punditry, more of what the work is actually like.

What this is — and isn't

What grows here: explainers that show how these systems really work and where their limits are, and interactive pieces in the Lab that make an abstract idea something you can touch. Perspective instead of excitement.

What you won't find: hype, panic, superlatives — and no number, study or quote I haven't checked myself. If I can't back a claim, I say so, or I leave it out. (That standard has teeth: an earlier squirrel-versus-goldfish mascot idea was dropped the moment the "three-second memory" turned out to be a myth.)

Harald Mühlhoff

Software architect and developer (C#/.NET). Professionally I design and build, among other things, applications that grid operators use to plan and inspect their power networks — from client-server systems to tablets out in the field. Alongside that I build and run a family of websites, with AI as a tool in both worlds. lostcontext.ai is where I write down what that teaches me. You'll find the provider details in the imprint.
